[…]The roundtable was followed by a performance by Karla Kracht, a German multidisciplinary artist, best recognized for her bizarre figures. The audience had a unique opportunity to see her Live Cinema Performance titled Divine Cyborg #17 – Dancing with the Ghosts, a performance using handmade objects, video and projection to tell a dystopian story of an archeologist of the future. Eight of the creatures seen in the performance have also been minted as NFTs and presented in the exhibition downstairs, once again bridging the physical and the digital world. 

Karla’s practice has been developed through playing around and many trials and errors. Although her working process is complex, there is also “a magic moment when suddenly things start making sense.”

Explaining the message behind her work, Karla stated we are in the moment when as humanity, we need to make decisions. “Either we continue like this and end up in this situation in less than 100 years or we change things.”

Like Digital Art, performance art was also one of the movements that were not easy to monetize, mostly due to its ephemerality. “If no one records it, this work only exists for a moment. And we’re really bad at recording our stuff,” she explains. “Maybe the NFTs will get performance artists more conscious about the importance of recording and the existence of this market where they can sell it.” […]
