A room-filling SciFi installation by Karla Kracht
“x or the untitled” is part of the creation-project “Ghost in the machine”, currently in development with a scheduled release date in spring 2025.
The installation places the viewer —as a visitor of a faraway future— into a ritualistic space cave-like space. It is a setting for future ceremonies in a society where humans no longer exist, and robots carry forward our traditions as a persistent echo of humanity.
Objects, electronic artifacts, sculptures, mechanized objects, sounds, lights and video projections, create a solemn atmosphere where rituals, somehow familiar yet oddly distorted, are celebrated.
Each object, character or artifact reveals unique rituals and traditions in a post-spaiens society, providing an ironic yet oddly familiar view of how these artifacts were utilized in different ceremonies and traditions within this post-sapiens society.
This project is based on Karla’s current research, which delves deeper into global human traditions, investigates the entangled relationship between spirits and technology, examines gender perspectives on spirituality, and explores interconnectedness with nature. Through this research, she intends to craft a series of science fiction artifacts by merging traditional craft techniques with electronics and contemporary materials. These artifacts will serve as the foundation for a staged exhibition resembling a museum in a distant future, acting as the focal point around which the performance will evolve.
The first version of this installation is on display at the Puppery Art Center of Taipei until September 7, 2024. Future exhibitions will be held in Germany in 2025, with dates and places to be announced.
